Approximately 50 cars have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Vehicles, building surfaces and postboxes were marked, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they reported in a official communication.
Officers say they were notified late on Wednesday, when a individual noticed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored liquid.
The fluid had been drawn in the form of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Law enforcement then found multiple other marked vehicles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation banning the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials say preliminary tests show the substance was likely human bodily fluid.
"There is still no lead as to its source; investigators are currently not informed of any injuries in connection with the event," they commented.
Local authorities announced they were attempting "to unravel the case" and have asked to the public for tips.
An important official said the attack made him stunned and required to be addressed promptly.
"This incident strikes at the center of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the far-right attack in 2020," he wrote on a platform, mentioning the killing of nine victims by a shooter targeting people of migrant background in five years prior.
